On the run from the insults and injuries of his classmates at school, he accidentally ends up in a general shop, where the elderly lady Ana comforts him and tells him that she experienced something similar in her youth. Ana is a descendant of the Danube Swabians. Sami's single mother has emigrated from Eritrea. Sabine Zaplin skilfully uses fairytale elements and combines events from the centuries-old history of the Danube region with contemporary experiences of the latest wave of migration.
