Poetry as rebellion

10/07, 19:00 - 20:30

The International Danube Festival Ulm/Neu-Ulm, the Ulm Poetry Summer, the Museum Ulm and the kunsthalle weishaupt present: Katalin Ladik: Sound poetry performance with discussion

One of the outstanding voices of (Eastern) Europe - the poet and artist Katalin Ladik - is coming to Ulm for the first time!

Katalin Ladik grew up bilingual - Hungarian and Serbian - in the multicultural Novi Sad in Yugoslavia. The status of women in socialist society, mythology as such and the international practices of the neo-avant-garde were her starting points for a body of work that emerged at the interface of poetry, visual art, sound art and movement. Radical, provocative and innovative, Ladik broke the taboos of socialism, questioned and challenged the boundaries of genres and constantly expanded the field of (expressive) freedom. Her oeuvre includes written poems, sound and visual poems, collages, concept photography, records, performances and happenings.

Her own voice and her body are her most important tools and instruments. Katalin Ladik's performances, which she has given from the 1970s to the present day, occupy a special place in the world history of performance art.

Ladik's retrospective exhibition "Oooooooo-pus" is currently on a European tour.

Katalin Ladik has lived in Budapest since 1992.
