Literary nightcap - stream of life

11/07, 22:30 - 23:00

Authors from Ulm and the surrounding area read from their own works

To round off the Danube Day, there will once again be the tried-and-tested nightcap readings in cooperation with the Künstlerhaus Ulm. Authors from Ulm and the surrounding area will read from their own works for half an hour on five evenings. The theme will be time escape - escape - future and, of course, the Danube and its water. After the readings, the evenings will end with a cosy nightcap atmosphere

Peter Langer reads stories with and from the Danube from his biography.
'A personal reader on some important periods of southern German contemporary history and an interesting account of an activist life in Ulm on the Danube.
"All that was history. Now a new chapter has begun."

Peter Langer was born in Heidelberg in 1950. He studied history and German language and literature at the University of Heidelberg. Through various study trips since the end of the 1980s, he has become an expert on the political and cultural scene in the Danube countries. He was the founder and director of the ROXY cultural centre in Ulm and is a lecturer in cultural management, cultural history and European studies of the Danube region.
From 1998 to 2010, he was artistic director of the International Danube Festival Ulm/Neu-Ulm, which was initiated by him. He set up donau.büro.ulm, a project and development agency for political, cultural and scientific cooperation with south-east Europe, which he headed until 2010. In 2008, he was one of the founders of the European Danube Academy in Ulm, which he still heads today. He has been a visiting professor at the Bucharest University of Economics since 2017.
Langer's services to cooperation in the European Danube region were honoured in 2008 when he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, Langer has been organising solidarity events for Ukrainian refugees in the Ulm region with partner organisations. Since March 2023, he has been teaching Ukrainian pupils German and social studies at Schubart-Gymnasium in Ulm.
