Exhibition by Amalie Mannheim, Photographer Hyp Yerlikaya.
The exhibition is dedicated to a socially taboo subject:
Women in prostitution, women as commodities, women for sale. They are confronted daily with hiding their true identity and their feelings, fears, suffering and pain. In society, they hide their faces, dreaming "facelessly" of a different life. The exhibition is based on true accounts of women in prostitution. They are often women from the poorhouses of Europe. They leave their home countries to escape the lack of prospects there and start a new life under better conditions in Germany.
The reality is completely different. The exhibition aims to help focus attention on a shameful topic and encourage discourse.
The European Parliament recently passed a resolution by a large majority in which it calls on the member states to adopt a sex purchase ban in their prostitution legislation, analogous to many countries in Europe and beyond - a model whose goal describes gender equality and gender justice as the top priority!
The exhibition can be visited during the respective opening hours of the exhibition venues.
