UNESCO World Heritage Children's and Family Day

11/07, 11:00 - 17:00

Caves and Ice Age art in the Swabian Alb

Embark on a journey into the Ice Age to the Palaeolithic hunters and gatherers in the Ach and Lone valleys near Ulm. Find out how our ancestors lived in the time of the great mammoths, what techniques they used to work stone and ivory and what connections there were to other important archaeological sites along the Danube as far as the Black Sea.

Touch, ask, marvel and „grasp“ will not be neglected during the encounter with an almost real ice age hunter.

If you want to take a special souvenir home with you, you can slip into the clothes of an Ice Age man for a photo and feel like a real Ice Age hunter for a moment.

Children can give free rein to their creativity and take part in exciting hands-on activities, be it making Jewellery and bag charms, Design of Stone Age tattoos or Painting like in the Stone Age. In the process, we create our own colour box just like thousands of years ago. Inspired by early painting techniques, we experiment with self-made colours from plants and soil and create colourful pictures.
