Duo concert for flute and marimba

With Johanna Dömötör & Emiko Uchiyama

A sound full of nostalgia unfolds in the interplay of the internationally acclaimed duo Johanna Dömötör (flute) and Emiko Thiele-Uchiyama (marimba) from Linz, Austria. The two musicians have developed an independent duo form that is characterised by tonal sophistication, stylistic openness and chamber music precision. The programme spans a wide range from baroque and classical music to impressionistic soundscapes and contemporary and popular styles. Works by Rameau, Machado, Ibert, Chopin, Piazzolla and other composers unfold a colourful, multi-layered sound language in the special sound combination of flute and marimba - between transparency, rhythmic energy and poetic density.

The marimba and the Donaufest 2026

The marimba is the instrument selected for the 7th Danube Festival 2026 music competition. Renowned music universities in the Danube countries have been nominating their young talents since 2012, who will face a renowned international jury in Ulm. They decide on the awarding of three valuable prizes. The competition, which is open to the public, will take place on 6 and 7 July 2026 in the concert hall of the Ulm Music School. The exact times will be announced in good time in the media and on the Danube Festival and music school websites. The competition will traditionally conclude with the public award ceremony and a prizewinners' concert of the past Donaufest 2024 with the oboe instrument with the participation of the Ulm Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. This closing event will also take place on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 at 8 pm in the concert hall of the Ulm Music School. Admission is free.
