The International Danube Festival Ulm/Neu-Ulm, the Ulm Poetry Summer and the Danube Swabian Central Museum (DZM) present: Reading and talk with Frieda Paris

What can a poem be? Everything. With 'Nachwasser', Ulm-born Frieda Paris presents a touching debut, subtle and poetic, permeable, deeply layered, fanning out. Here is a writer who listens to the whispers of her word mothers as well as those of a bird that has built a nest on her writing shoulder. The text allows its readers to participate in the creation of a long poem, taking them to the editing table where everything comes together: stranded poetry, tear salt, childhood words - and the backs of notes from the estate of the great word mother Friederike Mayröcker. Unperturbed, the author places sentences on the edge of the table for herself and the reader, towards a single lifelong sentence, in the hope that it might - at some point - reach someone.

"You have to "Afterwater" like Chris Marker's film essay "Sans Soleil" - Letters read aloud in a calm voice, while the settings change, from Vienna to Hokkaido, back to childhood in southern Germany, from snow to sand, and above all the writing, in limbo."- Marcel Beyer

Frieda Paris, MA of Arts, born 1986 in Ulm. Graduated from high school and trained as a dressmaker in Wald. She has lived in Vienna since 2010. There she studied theatre, film and media studies as well as language arts. Paris develops radio plays (most recently "HERZBEFELLT, ein Nachrufen") and poems, always close to the material. Finalist at the 28th Open Mike.
