This year marks the 80th anniversary of the expulsion of the Germans from Hungary. To mark the occasion, the Hungarian-German play „Bündeltanz“ will be presented at Ulm Theatre on the occasion of the International Danube Festival.
The culmination of the state measures against the Hungarian Germans was their expulsion ordered by the Hungarian government. Officially, the expulsion began on 19 January 1946 in Budaörs and ended in June 1948, with a total of around 170,000 Hungarian Germans arriving in the American-occupied zone of Germany and a further 50,000 in the Soviet occupation zone. This play about the expulsion of the Hungarian Germans uses the story of two families and a couple to show the struggle of those affected for freedom, love, independence, traditions, modernity and ultimately to remain in the only homeland they know.
