The Donaufest presents the writer, playwright and performer Ivana Sajko as one of the most distinctive literary voices in Croatia and the Western Balkans. She has been present on the European literary and theatre scene for years. She is known to German-speaking audiences thanks to Alida Bremer's excellent translations, among other things.

In conversation with Alida Bremer, her new dramas, novels and cross-genre texts will be presented. Her latest novel, which is currently being translated into German, will also be announced.

Thanks to her successful experiments with language and text structure, Sajko has been recognised by international European critics as an innovative author.

Her exploration of the phenomena of awakening, freedom and individual responsibility has had a profound influence on her literary and theatrical work. Although she addresses the alienation and fears of the modern individual, „Ivana Sajko's literature simultaneously opens up space for intimate moments of hope and solidarity.“

„I look at the position of the writer in today's society and the role of literature through the possibility of revealing different phenomena that we have normalised ...

I am fascinated by new concepts that go beyond an anthropocentric view of the world.“ Ivana Sajko
