Kafka's cookery book

Franz Kafka's vegetarian matamorphoses in 544 recipes
With: Eva Gritzmann and Denis Scheck
If you’d like to take part in a tasting of vegetarian delicacies from *Kafka’s Cookbook*, please be there at 6 pm, weather permitting! Should it rain, further information will follow shortly. No prior registration or payment is required. Voluntary donations for the tasting on the day of the event and at the venue are welcome! The donations will be used to organise cultural events at social institutions in Ulm and Neu-Ulm.
The traditional international menu of the Danube Festival with typical dishes from the entire Danube region, which visitors can enjoy on both banks in Ulm and Neu-Ulm, will be supplemented this year by unusual recipes. For all gourmets, for all those who like to experiment in the kitchen and above all for all lovers of Franz Kafka's literature, the literary critic Denis Scheck and the literature enthusiast doctor Eva Gritzmann have republished a forgotten cookery book from Kafka's estate. Lavishly designed, with an insightful and witty foreword by the two editors and carefully selected texts by the owner, the cookery book shows that Kafka - as in literature - was a visionary in matters of nutrition. This is especially true since, as a vegetarian, he lived in an environment in which meat consumption was the norm and a status symbol. Kafka also swam completely against the tide on this issue.
How did Kafka use his vegetarianism „in the fight against the family“? What was the writer's relationship with animals? To what extent are the recipes healthy, regional and seasonal - in other words, everything that characterises modern, conscious nutrition?
Rediscover Kafka and experience him with all your senses!
A warm welcome!
Eva Gritzmann works as a doctor in Stuttgart. Together with Denis Scheck, she has published two books on the differences in taste between men and women („She & He“) and on maturity („Solon's Legacy“).
Denis Scheck is one of the most influential literary critics in Germany. He is the author and presenter of numerous literary formats and television programmes. At this year's Donaufest, he will be presenting as part of the literature programme.
