Mysterious" art project

10/07 - 14/07

Programme for the completion of the project 2022 - 2024

What connects a nunnery that is almost a thousand years old with an Art Nouveau palace from 1909? Both were among the mysterious places that were presented in the "Mysterious" project, worked on in an artistic performance and thus made known to the public. Visitors can find out what secrets the old butcher's shop in Ebensee and the tunnels of Peterwardein harboured in the theme tent. Between 2022 and 2024, an international art project was created in which artists and young people from five cities in the Danube region - including four European Capitals of Culture - worked together. The "Mysterious" project deliberately drew on new methods and formats such as co-creation. The results of the temporary artists' meetings in the European Capitals of Culture of the Danube Region - in Novi Sad (RS), Veszprém (HU), Timișoara (RO) and Bad Ischl (AT) - will be presented at the Danube Festival.

During the project weeks, young artists from all art disciplines explored particularly attractive but little-known, forgotten or difficult to access places together with local young people and worked on them together in an artistic performance. They searched for and found special places with their hidden stories, legends or historical events. In the theme tent, individual locations such as the Peterwardein tunnel system in Novi Sad, the Stefania Palace in Timisoara, the Margaret ruins in Veszprém or the old butcher's shop in Ebensee will be presented. The artists present will talk to the visitors and report on their experiences in the project.
