Balkan Urban Reggae

Merudia is a six-piece Balkan urban reggae project from Bulgaria that playfully transcends musical boundaries. The band's unique sound is characterised by the use of the traditional Bulgarian flute kaval, which Merudia deliberately removes from its folkloric context and embeds in a modern mesh of reggae, hip-hop and urban grooves. This unusual combination creates an independent style that is both deeply rooted in the Balkan tradition and clearly localised in the present. Merudia stands for openness, cultural diversity and musical curiosity - danceable, relaxed and at the same time atmospherically dense.

In the past, the band has worked with renowned artists from the Bulgarian reggae and hip-hop scene, including Ndoe (DRS), Zafayah, NRG_D, Samity and Mr Morski. These collaborations emphasise Merudia's firm place within Bulgaria's urban music landscape.
