Vienna is just the beginning - the Danube cycle path beyond the popular Routes 

The stage from Passau to Vienna is considered a classic on the Danube Cycle Path and is certainly a dream destination for many cyclists, and rightly so. 

But have you ever been further south-east, to the metropolises of Bratislava or Budapest? In the Amazon at the European Danube border triangle? At the mouths of the Danube tributaries Sava and Drava? 

Taking part in a wine marathon in the vineyards of Baranja, birdwatching in the magnificent Kopacki Rit Nature Park, experiencing Art Nouveau in Novi Sad, strolling through weekly markets on the banks of the Danube, hanging out in thermal baths from the K&K era or savouring goulash from the fire kettle in small restaurants by the river and experiencing south-eastern European hospitality and magnificent nature at the same time - these are all the best reasons why your cycling happiness only really gets going after Vienna. While cycling through Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia, connoisseurs, city travellers, adventurers and nature fans alike will revel.  

Too far away? The journey too long? It's all a question of organisation! There are direct train and flight connections to the starting point of your south-east stage every day, even for little money. What if the bike and equipment of your choice were already waiting for you at the start and the return journey was already organised? Thanks to new train connections, travelling by bike in the Balkans is safer and easier than you think.
