Anna Mabo - Turumtay, Zarić, Denk - Der Nino aus Wien (Solo)

For the fifth "Wiener Melange", we were able to win director and musician Anna Mabo as curator. In addition to her work at renowned theatres such as the Schauspielhaus Vienna and the Landestheater Linz, she has released three outstanding albums, wrote a song for the New Year's Concert and curated the Popfest on Karlsplatz in 2023 - an accolade in Vienna. In terms of style, her musical cabaret also tends towards the New Viennese Song, and it is not without reason that Ernst Molden is one of her fans and supporters: "What Anna Mabo thinks and writes and sings comes across to the listener like a bullet. But such clarity is never at the expense of poetry," he says of her.

The musician has brought an unusual trio with her to Ulm: Turumtay, Zarić, Denk. Efe Turumtay and Nikola Zarić, whose biographical roots lie in Turkey and Serbia, carry multi-layered rhythms and sounds from the Orient and the Balkans into the vastness of tango, jazz, chamber music and classical music. Together with the multi-talented Birgit Denk, they cover a wide range of genres. Turkish songs are interpreted, Serbian is sung and Viennese melodies are given an oriental guise. An evening that guarantees virtuosity.

This multi-faceted line-up is complemented by none other than "Der Nino aus Wien". He has been dubbed "the best young singer-songwriter in the country" and the "Bob Dylan of the Praterstern" by the Falter newspaper. Nino plays around 100 concerts a year, spread across German-speaking countries, from the Vienna Konzerthaus to the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. He has been nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award more than seven times and was honoured in the "Alternative Pop / Rock" category in 2016. He has achieved numerous chart positions, several number one hits in the FM4 charts, also writes music for the theatre and co-curated the Vienna Popfest in 2018. We are looking forward to his second visit to the banks of the Danube.
